HOW BAD CAN IT BE?

PRETTY BAD. THE FASHION INDUSTRY DOESN’T WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW UNHINGED IT REALLY IS. HERE’S THE TEA.

THE FASHION INDUSTRY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 8-10% OF GLOBAL EMISSIONS.

If the fashion industry were a country, it'd be the 4th largest climate polluter.

FaSHION = FOSSIL FUELS

The fashion industry uses 100 million tonnes of oil every year.

The production of synthetic fibres like polyester for the textile industry currently accounts for 1.35% of global oil consumption. This exceeds the annual oil consumption of Spain.

RUNWAY TO THE LANDFILL

Of the 100 billion garments produced each year, 92 million tonnes end up in landfills.

In America alone, an estimated 11.3 million tons of textile waste, equivalent to 85% of all textiles, end up in landfills on a yearly basis.

WHO’S BARING THE BURDEN?

Of the 74 million textile workers worldwide, 80% are women of colour

Demanding living wages for garment workers is supporting women’s rights.

IF LEFT UNCHECKED, THE FASHION INDUSTRY COULD USE MORE THAN 26% OF THE carbon budget associated with a 2°C pathway BY 2050.

What does this mean? A 2°C pathway is what we, collectively as a world, need to change to limit global warming to 2°C and prevent a literal climate apocalypse. If the fashion industry continues on it’s current trend, it could use more than 26% of the carbon budget we have “allowed”. That’s too much!
